Every once in awhile when a current athlete is chasing a years old milestone or record, the talk begins about which records will never be broken. This years milestone chaser is Derek Lee of the Chicago Cubs(bleh), who is on pace to attain the Triple Crown of baseball. This is in fact one of the hardest achievements to get, as only 16 previous players have done it in 126 seasons. The last player to do it was Carl Yastrzemski in 1967, 38 years ago. Derek Lee has a great chance to accomplish this, but what record will noone break?
Simple.
The one record that will never be broken is the All-Time Stolen Bases or even the Stolen Bases in a season record. Currently both are held by Rickey Henderson with 1,406 total and 130 in one season. The closest active player to the All-Time record is Kenny Lofton with a current 556. The closest a current player has come to breaking the single season record in the last 10 years was 76 by Kenny Lofton in 1996. Amongst the current teams, the White Sox(yay) lead the majors with this lost art with 107, Scott Podsednik has 51 of those. The Sox average 1.1 SBs a game, if they continue this way they will finish with 178SBs. Only 48 more than Rickey Henderson's single season average.
In other Baseball News, everyones prayers and well wishes should continue to be with Matt Clement who took a line drive off the side of this head. It hit so hard, that the ricochet sent the ball into left field. Link to story
